A further meeting was held at the Colonial office at 3 p.m. on the 11th February, 1946 to consider questions regarding the Long Kong Police Force.

2. r. Perdue stated that, in view of the lapse of time and uncertainty of information, he felt unable to express dofinite views regarding the undesirability of retaining individual members of the Police in the Force. He was, however, willing to go through the names of the police and see to what extent his own recollections and opinions concurred with: those already expressed by other senior officers.
3. The means of terminating the services of non-commissioned European members of the Folice was discussed. Mr. Ferdue said that it had been the practice to use non-renewal of agreement in certain cases to obtain cœmpulsory retirement at the age of 45, although the ordinance provides for compulsory retirement only at 55. This non-renewal of agreement was used chiefly in the cases of persons (European and Asiatic) below the rank of Sub-Inspector, but it had been used for Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors. It was agreed that the opinions of the legal advisers and C.S.D. should be obtained regarding the tormination of services of those ranks of the Police.

Lt-Col. Sedgwick agroed to write to liong Kong to obtain if possible a copy of the renewal agreements which were executed there. It was pointed out that individual members of the Force did not retain copies, nor were copies forwarded for record to the U.".

r. Fennefather-vans agreed to give has permission or otherwise regarding applications for permission to marry made in this country by ex-internoe ambers of the Force.
It was
a reed that such applicants should be naked to state the name of the lady they propose to marry in order that reference may be made to the Commissioner of Folice.
6. The question as to whether a man marrying without permission is liable to lose any rights under the Widows' and Orphans' Pension schone should be determined by reference to the appropriate authorities in the Colonial Office.

r. rennefathor-Evans agreed to submit lists of:-
(1) those members of the force of the rank of
Sub-Inspector (or higher) and of the age of 45 or more whom he does not wish to return to duty in Hong Hongi
(11) those men aged wxler 40 whom he wishes to
retire either
or
(a) on grounds of inefficiency
(b) on abolition of office (below the rank of
Sub-Inspectors).
(111) - Those men over 45 who have not reached the rank
of Sub-Inspector, whom he wishes to retire.
